I’m good at all things Mac, so I was pretty distraught when I had to schedule an appointment with Apple’s Genius Bar. After spending a week sorting through my Wifi problems with Apple’s Mac OS X Lion, I pretty much figured that my relatively new iMac wasn’t compatible with Lion. After 45 magical minutes at the Apple Store, Drew - my genius - more or less agreed with me: we reinstalled OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. He also escalated the case… maybe Apple will sort out my problem in some future OS update.

I’ve outlined my frustrations with Apple’s OS X Lion not working with WiFi here but I thought I would add an image depicting just one of the symptoms resulting from my problem with the data streaming through the WiFi airwaves.

Apple OS X Lion + WiFi = Suck

I have had a nightmare of a time with Apple’s OS X Lion. I installed it a week ago and immediate had WiFi problems: I couldn’t maintain a connection for more than 30 seconds. Then someone pointed out this. And this.

In looking for a solution, I found this article: WiFi Dropping in OS X Lion? Here are Some Wireless Troubleshooting Solutions

Here’s what I have tried so far:

Turn wireless on & off
Reboot the Mac
Reset the Router
Move Wi-Fi to the top of the Service Order list
Move the primary router to the top of “Preferred Networks” list
Delete existing WiFi connections and re-add them
Add an extra DNS entry
Add a New Network Location
Maintaining Data Transfer by pinging another server

I can now maintain a connection, but now everything is garbled. Audio has drop outs, graphics are smeared, iPhone Apps download with an error -8008, disc images for downloads of Chromium and Filezilla can’t be opened because the data is corrupt.

I’m pretty frustrated. This has now taken 40+ hours of my week and today I’m trying this: Still Having Lion Wi-Fi Problems? This Solution Works

See, no matter what some social media guru told you, Twitter is not just a marketing amplification engine. It’s a bunch of people, sharing things they think are worth sharing. Trying to start a McDonald’s appreciation hashtag is like the smelly, creepy kid running a write-in campaign for Prom King — not gonna work, and probably gonna backfire. People don’t start liking you just because you suggest a way to express their admiration.

Health:

Drink plenty of water.
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
Make time to pray.
Play more games
Read more books than you did in 2011.
Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day
Sleep for 7 hours.
Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile.

Personality:

Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
Don’t have negative thoughts of things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
Don’t overdo. Keep your limits.
Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.
Dream more while you are awake
Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.

If you like search on the new Google+ as much as I do, you can try this new tweak that makes the new Google+ search look more like the old Google search. MacWorld wrote about it. I have another suggestion, though: switch to another search engine. I switched over to Bing on my phone and on all of my browsers and honestly, I don’t miss Google one bit..

So much for “don’t be evil”. Adios, Google.
